COVER: From "Allocation of Gamma-Tubulin Between Oocyte Cortex and Meiotic Spindle Influences Asymmetric Cytokinesis in the Mouse Oocyte" by Susan L. Barrett and David F. Albertini. Biol Reprod 2007; 76:949-957. Published online ahead of print 7 February 2007; DOI 10.1095/biolreprod.106.057141. Mouse oocytes that undergo meiotic maturation in vivo utilize mechanisms that limit the involvement of γ-tubulin (green) in spindle (α/Β-tubulin red, chromosomes blue) assembly and prevent loss of microtubule organizing centers during extrusion of the fi rst polar body. Oocytes matured in culture results in deregulation of this process and a decrease in oocyte quality. Cover design and layout: Jane Tenenbaum, Tenenbaum Design, Cambridge, Massachusetts. Biology of Reproduction is printed with soy-based inks on acid-free paper by Allen Press, Inc., Lawrence, Kansas.
